Climbing the ladder of His will: Accessory God

Accessory God

I have been reading throught Judges, and those of you who have read it would probably agree with me. Many times the Israelites used God as an accessory. They worshipped other gods until they felt they needed God. Then they called upon him. Sometimes they even put God in line with their other idols! Many times in my life I find myself doing the same, putting other things before God but still trying to use Him. But that isn't the way it should be, He should be using us.

Hmm...yes, I see your point. The problem with the Israelites was that they only wanted God when He was needed (to rescue them from their enemies), but tried to avoid the fact that they needed to serve Him the rest of the time. Funny...it's so easy to point fingers at them and say how silly they were, yet we still do the same thing today...

Yeah Allegra, my thoughts exactly. The Israelites are actually a lot like modern day America in some ways, even though I hate to say it. =D
Beth, I'll be sure to check out the blog, thanks!

hey, sorry I haven't been commenting in a while...but I'm on vacation in Texas right now and I'm on my grandparent's computer. ;)

anyways, in reply to your question on your other post, I go to movies quite often...maybe once a month or so. I also watch lots of movies at home because we get movies in the mail (Netflix) almost every day.

I really like this post...(this may be off the point) I have difficulty relating what happened in the Old Testament to myself or what's happening nowadays. But this really gets me thinking. You're right; we often look down on the Israelites when they sin, but we ourselves often fall into the same sins they committed! Yet it is encouraging to remember that God always forgave the Israelites when they sinned because they were His chosen people! Just read Isaiah...it goes back and forth from God's anger with Israel to his mercy and grace in the midst of their rebellion. He still blessed them!

oh yeah, check out the link Beth gave you above...only girls post on it, but all the posts are suitable for everybody to read! =)

Hey Emily, thanks for commenting, even while your on vacation. What's it like down there? Probably really hot. It is true that we often look at the Israelites and say, "Crazy people" we are very similar though aren't we? I know I often drift farther away from God when things go well. =D
